Kenapa Tak Boleh Minum Air Ketika Sedang Makan?

Don't drink too much liquids during meals... it screws with your digestion and absorption process

We all know water is great for us and we’re always told to drink more, but during meals is not necessarily the best time.

When you are chewing your food, you are creating enzymes or “digestive juices” that help break down your food into your intestines.

If you drink water while eating your food, it dilutes those digestive juices, therefore hindering them from breaking down your food.

As we age, Gastric acid or Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is less strong that it was than person was 18-20 years old.

Hypochlorhydria - low/lack of stomach acid - can cause lots of problems (person over age 40 has about a 90% probability of having hypochlorhydria)

Also, diet colas contain phosphoric acid, which can damage calcium metabolism and bone health in high enough quantities

The negative result of the undigested food?

It leads to acid reflux, heart burn and even cause a surge in your insulin levels, almost like the way hugh glycemic food would affect you.

1. Failure to digest foods properly. This will result in a general malabsorption of proteins. Many degenerative conditions will be associated, therefore, with hypochlorhydria.

2. Failure to absorb trace elements. Trace elements are essential for normal body functioning. If these are not present then the biochemistry of the body will go slow, organs will go slow and this will accelerate the ageing process. Therefore, one would expect to see people getting diseases, such as cancer, heart disease and neuro-degenerative conditions, before their time.

3. Failure to sterilise the stomach contents. This will make individuals more susceptible to gut infections such as gastro-enteritis and possibly enteroviruses such as Epstein-Barr virus, Coxsackie virus, Echovirus and so on.

4. Malabsorption of vitamin B12. It is well known that the stomach must be acid in order to absorb B12. Indeed, using a proton pump inhibitor such as Omeprazole, will reduce absorption of vitamin B12 to less than 1% of expected.

So although, drinking more water can help fill you up and help increase the metabolism, drinking it during meals will not help you with weight loss if its surging insulin

Try to stop drinking before the meal and wait 30 minutes after the meal to start drinking again.

Sipping a little bit of water before and after is not going to be a big deal but drinking a full glass of water at that meal will cause major problems in digestion
